Help W/ video game making!
 

Hello! I am making a video game using visual basic 5. i have quite a bit of experience using it but there is still a LOT for me to lern befor I will move on to learn C++! :beard: I have made quite a few ways to create movement, music and other important game functions! But I wanted to see if any1 know of better ways to program Movement using the keybord, Graphics (and a good program 2 use to make the graphics), and theing along the video game nature! Any thing you could give would be great :D ! Thank you VERY much!:banana:

How can we suggest better ways to do something if you do not say how you are currently doing them?

Well I would like 2 c all the ways to make any type of functions. Beacuse even if it is not as efficient as mine i would like 2 c if i like it better!

Tip: 2 C is the number of batteries in one of my small flashlights. If this sort of language mangling carries over to your code, you are in deep doo doo. Just a thought.

You're more likely to get suggestions if you ask specific questions, such as "How can I improve this piece of code?" or "How would I go about creating a collision detection?" If you don't give people anywhere to start, they're going to struggle to answer you, or, more likely, they'll just dismiss your post.

Also, as DaWei alludes to, you may get better responses if you use correct English, as it's easier to parse. Pidgin English is fine for txting or IRC, but on a forum it merely appears as if you cannot be bothered to formulate a sentence. And if you can't be bothered to spend time on your question, it's less likely people will spend time on their answers.

Or, look at it another way; if you wrote a program with so little care and attention to its syntax, it wouldn't even run. English may be more forgiving, but that's no reason not to at least try to get things correct.

The only thing bad about asking a specific question is that there is too specific of an answer- but if u need it a little more specific then what would be a good way to make movement becouse right now i'm pretty much stuck with textboxes, timers and such. and what yould be a good program to make graphics and animations that visual basic 5 will suport and what would i have to use to support that graphic because of right now im stuck with paint and simular programs.
And to be all truthful I somethime lack the right brain to support proper english so if i use c = see or 2 = too , too , two or even b as b and w/ as with I would label other programming or if it is anything more than a shorter english, or I do not always have the time to type correctly due to all the thing my life has me do.

Ok I will make it 1 question at a time... What is a good way to make movement using vb5 that does not use a textbox and timer! I would realy like to make it using the w, a, s,and d buttons. Thank you!

You might want to loop into the KeyPress, KeyUp and KeyDown events.

You may want to look into Paint.NET.


Surely if you can type out the full names of functions in VB, you can type out full words in English? And if you cannot, then surely it's a vital life skill to learn?

Another thing I would like 2 figure out is how to make it where in a listbox instead of the list going from top to bottom I need it to go from botton to top! I have messed around with it for hours but to no success. Thanks for your help and time!
