Hi Everyone

I am Ekram
i am in engineering academy in egypt (good one but not enough or excellent)
i am quite puzzled with how to start my IT career i uses the computer for more than 10 years and i know alot
i am now have some videos on A+ i want to get certified as i am going to train in a good company (schlumberger) and i will need it and i will get a good deal of money and i think it will also help me
so
i am asking what to learn beside it
what programming language should i start to learn
i hope you can guide me and not to neglect me

I had only vaguely heard of A+, so I looked it up. It seems rather obscure; I haven't run across anything similar to it, so I guess the best way to improve your knowledge is to learn something a little more conventional.

Java's one of the most popular languages around, possibly even the most popular development language in use today. Other popular languages, such as C++ and C# are extremely similar, so it might help to pick up one of them.

In terms of a good introduction to the concepts of programming, you might want to take a look at Python. It has a more gradual learning curve than most languages, and is a good introduction to more complex concepts such as classes and objects.

From a purely academic standpoint, Lisp or Scheme will give you a good understanding of how computer languages actually work, as those languages tend to cut very close to computer languages theory (as they're essentially just glorified ASTs).

But if you're looking to learn a commercially viable language, and don't care so much about the theoretical side, Java might be the language you want to pick up next.

Like what Arevos said. Except I'm assuming that A+ refers to the CompTIA certification, in which case it certainly can't hurt either.

I have the A+ certification. It's not bad, but it's nothing compared to the real world. Some of the stuff is absolutely useless, but employers just want to see the education. Although you will find that some of the stuff you do on the job, is standard textbook stuff, so it won't hurt to have it.

As for programming, knowing a language, and knowing how the O/S works, is a huge advantage over the next person who doesn't know jack about coding.

Welcome to the forums, A+ is good to have for IT, but stuff like Netowrk+ and Security+ are better. People that have A+ are a dime a dozen. Network+ and Security+ are a bit harder to get, but look much better on a resume IMHO. Another cert to look at would be Linux+

As far as programming languages, i would learn C++, perl and something like php or asp (personally i recommend php).
