Vista

If any of you have tried vista could you let me know what you think. Thanks

Vista is nifty, but not worth the price to upgrade from XP Pro for most users.

bah, until they get rid of that activation crap (which has only gotten worse since XP), i will not be upgrading anybody at work to vista. It only allows one hardware change before you have to buy a new license. It's complete bullshit, cause i have had several situations where guys blow a hard drive two or three times out of the same computer (now this computer isn't brand new, and it doesn't happen in a short amount of time, more like every two to three years), so it's not only a big head ache to re-activate, but it's costly because you have to pretty much continuously buy licenses.

A hardware change also includes any upgrades, like a new video card and stuff like that.

Certainly better than the default XP theme, and I think I prefer the transparent aero-glassy look over the brushed metal of Mac OSX.

I probably won't buy it, though, as I rarely use Windows outside the workplace, and Vista's eye-candy seems a little limited compared to its competitors.

I haven't seen much of 'em myself yet, but it seems like Windows is actually quite behind in this regard...

I never heard of that one hardware change! WTF! I upgrade my computer all the time. That makes me change my mind of buying Vista!

DaWei Nov 20th, 2006 6:40 PM

That requirement has been dropped from the EULA.

I, for one, will not be telling my father to upgrade to Vista,(I mangage his IT stuff at his work) becasue it's too much of a hassle right now, when it would be more cost-effective to just keep XP Pro on the work machines.

But I can see upgrading in the future, if not to Linux, to Vista, because it looks prettier!

Prettier than Linux or Windows XP? The eye-candy for Linux has become surprisingly good recently, and with the right theme can match Vista very closely in look and feel.
