 I want to create a game similar to utopia. Check out: games.swirve.com/utopia

anyone willing to help would be awesome. It can be written in php, perl or whatever else you want. I will promote this and help create the website for it with the hosting. We can split the profits 50/50 once the game is up and running. I have lots of experience with promotion and marketing and and can create web sites but I don't have the time.

If anyone is interested, just email me at:

you know, posting once around here is enough to get people's attention. There was no need to post 4-5 times. All other threads on this topic have been moved.

How do you plan on selling a game, the likes of which are already free?

BlazingWolf Nov 11th, 2004 9:14 PM

Like pay for play mabey, or just off ads. ;)

ads would be the best way i believe. i have had my mind into creating a game like this. but i wouldnt even know where to start on coding it lol but maybe someday :)

or another way to make money would be to start out free for say a good few games and then start charging if people like it they will pay for it ;)

Well you have a make a few good games, and then say hey were making a new game but it's $10 for 3 months and you'll get some people in the beginning and if the game is good your fan base will grow.

they are not that hard to make just a lot of processing power is needed if it gets big, you write a back end tick server, and have front end code say php for example, then just make them both use that one big arse database that is eventually created through all the players, its just lots of statistical behaviour envolved and code for working out fights etc,

planetarion which was around (not anymore went bust due to the flop in ad payments) was a big game, and well coded, also it had a almost cult following for a good 3-4 years.
