Software testing.

I have been writing this peice of software for a couple of weeks now and although unfinished it is stable enough for testing, and I wondered if someone may be interested in the testing.

The application itself, in entirety is to restrict access to the host computer by making the desktop inaccessible among other things. The program can be used to restrict access ultimately until the correct password is entered and accepted, alternitavely the program can be set to allow timed access for the specified number of minutes/hours. alot of features are still to be added.

INFO : Ctrl+Alt+Del Will work for now but will not in future versions.

WARNING : Using Ctrl+Alt+Del at this point you Will be able to terminate the application however this will not enable your computer, restarting the program and entering the correct password after this Will enable your computer. (Default Password = 999)

WARNING : The first run will immediatley give you two messages. these messages are the result of initial files unable to be found, after these messages LockTop will create default files. (Default Password = 999)

The application requires the .net 2.0 Framework in order to operate.

Unfortunately I am at college and dont have the ability to open the application here to get any screen shots, and it was toooo late last night to sort them out at home so I apologise for this.

:( the Zip file is too big to be placed here so anyone interested I will mail it to you.

I will take great heed of all critisism.
Thank you, John Wesley Hardin'

Source code or executable... I'll be willing to test it, if I can see what the code does first. Not too willing to blindly run an exe. ;)

I understand your reasons for your comments and i know no matter how much I assure you it wont make a difference, however I will have to think it through about giving away source code as this program will eventually be going under a company name.

I only had a minute to check how things were going as im on my way to the dentist, :| when i get back I will see what I can do for you all.

Mad_guy : your offer is great and shall also take you up on that when I return if the offer still stands.

Thanks.

IR & Pizentios : How much and what parts of code would you need in order to re-assure yourselves of your computers safety? As said earlier this code will be copywritten but my other point is that there is alot of code, so much so that if I sent it all then it would more than likely be quite some time before you got round to testing....which I dont mind; I have time, but my presumption is that the reading of the code would get given up on and the whole thing scrapped anyway, that's my worry.

<cynical-ish>If this code is going under a company name shouldn't you have testers that will test this program as part of their job. Generally with something propriatary(sp?) having your own tester(s) is a good thing, as it will keep your code and ideas inside the company, and get around these issues.

It will be going under a company name however, I wont lie, the company is not mine, and I do not have the required tester's though the company may have. So far I want some critisism on a personal note, the company will tell me if it is what they want or not, people here will have opinions.

"IR & Pizentios : How much and what parts of code would you need in order to re-assure yourselves of your computers safety? "

- All of it. I will need to be able to read the code and follow the function calls. A malicious block of code could hide anywhere. I read code fairly quick, faster than I read a book, so it shouldn't take long.

"As said earlier this code will be copywritten"

- I will treat it as such, if you decide to send it over.

I don't think this is an issue on these forums. Most people here are pretty clean, and I have yet to see someone make off with someone elses work. And since this is in beta (or alpha??) stages I think you're even safer. But if you want to be really safe, you can always just give it to one or two people so they can verify that the code is safe for everyone else here.
