C++ from the Ground Up, Third Edition

A local teacher is beginning a two-phased high school programming class oriented around C++ and he is looking for a book to use as the textbook for the class. Have any of you read the book below? If so, what is your opinion?

I have read half of "C++ From the Ground-Up" 2nd Edition. Schildt is a great author. The book was very easy to understand and made learning C++ an ease and a joy. He uses very good examples and explains the thoroughly. It is geared towards beginner programmer which made it easy to follow. I only read 1/2 of it though because I had to return it back to the library. It was an excellent book but it doesn't compare to "Thinking in C++" by Bruce Eckel.

Some people swear by Herby, and I will admit that he's gotten better over the years, but I would avoid books by authors who are represented negatively in common community jargon if I were you.

I have just reserved the book C - The Complete Reference at the library. Maybe I shall not read it.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Schildt, however I can't judge as I've never read any of his books. (because of the bad things ive heard mind ;) )
