Another unoriginal introduction
Hi, everybody! (Hi, Dr. Nick)
I'm a grad student in my mid 20s working on my doctorate in audiology (it's fun - you should try it...). My interest in programming is (at this point) purely academic, as I am really just learning to satisfy my own curiousity. I just like to know how things work, and this is something that has piqued my interest. When not in school (which isn't really very often...), I'm known to occupy myself with racquetball, biking, or the guitar - not necessarily in that order. Oh, and if you have questions about hearing, ears, balance, etc. I'm always happy to answer those... :rolleyes: |

I really can't be certain exactly what that would do, but I'll take an educated guess. I'll start w/ the assumption that you know what doppler effect is and why it happens (if not, see here.
I'm assuming that the game will process the distance at which a sound is produced and it's vector. It will then calculate a frequency shift upwards as it moves toward you and downwards as it moves away to simluate the way it would sound in real life. The number that you can set is probably just a value to set how pronounced the effect is. As for a proper setting? Sorry, but I have no idea. I'd just play with it and see if it makes the experience more realistic. |
