Addison Wesly - These guys are the Ferraris of computer books; they explain it as a philosophy. If you can keep up with their writing, read and practice, you can become a true guru. My personal favorites: "TCP/IP illustrated guide" volumes 1 & 2, and "Exploiting Software." They can be on the expensive side though..
Wrox/Wiley - Clear and understandable books, and at a reasonable price. They cover everything in at least decent detail and tell you where to go if you need more info. My favorites: Beginning Linux programming, Professional C++, and Reversing.
apress - they're cool. Might have something to do with some of the wrox authors being hired by them? :D
O'reilly -their "learning" books imo are trash, and the intermediate level books aren't the greatest either. I'd never buy an O'reilly book again if there were a book available from one of the above publishers mentioned; or probably apress. They do have cool reference books however.....

I love SAMS books. I have a lot of them.They seem to work well for me, and make great references.

I'd never buy a book based on publisher. I've never been impressed with any particular publishing company. However, there are a few authors that I always keep an "eye out" for.

Personally, I prefer the O'reilly books. I've read a couple of their reference books and found them pretty useful, but I haven't read any of their learning books though. That may be why.

This isn't even a book review. It's just trash.

This is about another programming language? No, it is not. First, quit double posting, and second, hie yourself over to the lounge or some appropriate forum. If you haven't got around to reading the forum's rules/FAQ and maybe a "How to Post..." thread, please do that.
