python for newbie

hi! i have a few question with regards to python.

1. Can I use python for web application? how's python to compare with PHP? does python can interact with mySQL like PHP does?

2. is python is good programming langauage for application programming? like making chat software and browsers?

I really want to learn this langauge but I dont know where to get some resources, hope you could direct me where should go and where to start. Also whoch software to use on making a python program, for both web and application base.

Thanks so much in advance.

Jsut to have answered your questions, yes you can do all of that, there are so many libraries and modules you can get. And as DaWei said search forums for more. Resources are plentiful from www.python.org and google (search for "Alan Gauld", he's written one of the best starter tutorials).

Let's see you do some work ;)

try Dive into Python great free book, you can get online,
As for the Alan Gauld's tutorial, that was actually the first one i found when i first started,
I wouldn't Recommend that being the only Tutorial you read.
