Your scale is fairly meaningless. The length of time I've been involved in several projects is measured in years (those projects involved largish teams rather than just yours truly, and the size of those projects is more typically expressed in man-years of effort rather than meaningless measures like LOC or how long it took).

Yup, I wonder which project has the most man-years, and how many man-years got into the project.

Agreed. I also find that the time taken on projects often varies quite a bit. One project can take six months or over a year to complete, another might take as little as few weeks. Projects in my workplace also tend to be quite short compared to some other businesses.

oh, I am sorry. I could have sworen I put years too. Really sorry about that guys. Now it makes my poll meaningless, shit! lol

You need to put never on there. My average development is working for a while and then getting distracted and putting it on indefinite hold. As soon as I finish a project that'll drop the average down to 'almost-never'

Real world, real world, wherefore art thou, real world.

Hey, it happens in the real world, too. I'm too lazy to look for it, but I believe the percentage figure for incomplete/abandoned projects was in the 40s in the last Standish report.

At my work it's definitly years. For programs that I do for fun at home, anywhere from weeks, to months, to years (there are a couple I am always adding new features too).
