Boot a program w/o harddrive... WARNING! VERY LONG POST!
Im not a newbie but assembly seems to be hard...ive worked with basic, vb, c/c++ and some java and at the moment im working on my own OS that has MS-Dos 6.2 as its 'core' and my problem is to have it boot from a diskette on a laptop w/o a harddrive...?
ive read all there is about EasyOS so dont tell me to look at that, but that made me believe that im in need of assembly, so ive got here to find some answers on HOW TO make it boot from a diskette... the OS partly made in QuickBasic 7.1 and partly in c. Help is appriciated! Tuts is REALLY appriciated! Exaples is most appriciated! |

Thanks alot!
I really hope that this will work...I'm going home to test it now... Hopefully I'll be back before 13.10 / 1.10 AM (GMT+1) with some results... Thanks again! |
A thought crossed my mind....
Isnt it easier to just modify the the files of a Win9x bootdisc?
Of the things i've read, it should be possible by editing the boot.ini file on the disk, or am i wrong? Ive tried it out so it says like this :
[boot loader]and it boots successfully and i can select which OS (as im testing on my PC with Win2K) and 'Stuffs OS' is on the list and after that im only getting errors that says a lot of text...can get the error text here tomorrow. but is it possible to do as i have done, by changing a Win9x boot disc? |
