Which program in specific are you referring to? If you're talking about the Java libraries and compiler, then those above should work. If you're talking about a specific IDE, then the name would help.

Java is a nice language... Be sure to review the API specification also.

Your Best bet is to download the following
1. The Java SDK http://java.sun.com Download the J2SE 1.4.2 2.Follow the link in New To Java Center 3. Download the Java Tutorial from the same site 4. If you want a full featured IDE I suggest the NetBeans 3.6 from www.netbeans.org. You can also download a cobundle of the IDE and the SDK from the same site Welcome to Java |

Best Java tutorial ever
This is by far the best tutorial i've ever seen. for beginners or intermediate it's a very simple, interactive supplement to your work.

thank you.
this is how i learned. also generally i enjoy the "SAMS teach yourself 'whatever' in 21 days" series, although the java one is probably best only for experienced programmers. i think the c++ book they have is the best one. just take your time and make sure you KNOW what's going on, cuz it gets pretty hairy pretty quick. tip for buying books: you can get books from amazon for less than a dollar or other small amount if you check their "used" sections. i've gotten about ten books for less than $2 from them all pretty much brand new, some even with the original un-opened cd-rom!
