I like open source, but I don't think I would want everything open source. Tricky topic. Are you saying everything should be open source?

I think it's important to have a good balance of both.
On one hand, it's good to see projects like the popular LAMP setup for servers thriving. But people still need to make money and put food on the table. It's the same with music, people think all music should be free, but I think that's a terrible idea. That's my two bobs worth.

@a thing -
Son, first of all. It doesn't matter what language a program in written in. If it does the job that it is suppose to do and it's open source, so what? Who cares if it's Java, Perl, or even Python. Those are inteprepted languages and they are some of the most popular programming languages. Second, who are you to tell someone to update their OS. My fucking school uses Windows 2000 Pro. If you want to tell someone to update their system, tell them for me will ya? You think they will listen. Especially for some one who thinks Open Source is a bad idea when your OS is fucking Open Source. If you think it's a bad idea, so support Mircoshit and purchase their software and their OS, Windows. Better yet, develop your own OS and keep it all to yourself. Then you'll see how cool you are! Open Source is one of the greatest things about computers. You actually get to see what goes on behind the scene of a marvolous product. Open Source is what keeps Linux alive, IMHO of course, and actually GOOD!

All programs should be open source, there are many other ways to make money, people dont need to sell there source code witch they probably got snippets to make for a large amount of money...

Microsoft, haven't keep the source code to themselves then they would be shit outta luck. That is what makes them what they are now. If every knew the secret, who would buy software anymore? What are the need of programmers, besides a hobby, if there is no market for them. Close Source programs is really where the money when it comes to software. Don't get me wrong and say Open Source isn't good neither, by all means, It Is! I would to be a professional programmer after college and work for a software company or a medium-size business.EDIT: @a_thing: Sorry for blasting on you. I was just in a pissy mood.
