"Software" doesn't make distinctions like "this app" is and "that app" isn't. Software is a set of directions for the computer that isn't permanently embedded in hardware via either permanent storage mechanisms or wired logic connections. It's an important distinction one should conform to fairly closely. GUI, WYSIWYG, text, spoken instructions, those are more meaningful terms in the context you're addressing, I believe.
