Having a substantial profit margin in a business that I built from the ground up would be awesome. Why work for someone else?

Not everyone can accomplish that

Yep, hence the reason it would be awesome. Unfortunately, we are not in an ideal world.

That would be great, but then again, I hate management, and if you own the business, there's no escaping it.

IBM was and still is a very big company, 300 thousand employees. Wasn't that one of the reasons that there decisions were less than palatable?

By the way, another huge company (1 million people employed at peak) was AT&T (Bell System), they split up, but look at this. It says: "Bellsouth merger proposed 10 March 2006." Is that information correct?

Yeah, I heard about that as well... and apparently, it will leave AT&T and Verizon as the only remaining companies from the original split.

IBM's decision was less than palatable because they chose an inferior microprocessor. They chose an inferior OS as well, but left to their own devices, they would have fixed that, eventually. I read about the AT&T thing, too. It's almost unbelievable. I was in the telecomm industry, working on one of the first cell systems, when the baby Bells were broken off. AT&T and Bell Labs were a truly positive force for technological advance, but a truly negative force for competetive communications. If the breakup had not occurred the present world of cellular communications would not exist to the extent it does. The 'right' to provide communications in a metropolitan area (and other areas) was exceedingly restricted and one-sided.
