If you learn C++, it shouldn't be too difficult to adapt to other languages, as many are based on C like syntax. And, once you understand programming well, it makes it a lot easier.

Where does XML fit in on the Web Development order of things? Shouldn't that be around or before PHP?

the truth is, you can start with any language, it's really just personal preference.

Is this really a sticky-class post for the articles forum? (I find no button for commenting on the original, thus the post here.)

I was thinking that a sticky post for the articles forum should relate to the production of articles, and not BE just an article.
I also (personal opinion) think that it's somewhat marginal in addressing programming in general. The remarks concerning Java are somewhat naive and misleading, and are probably insupportable with facts. The fellow addresses .NET as if it were a universally available option, which it is not (yet, anyway). I don't think it's really tutorial material, and I don't think it has anything to do with writing articles. Sticky status confers some sort of aura which this piece just does not have.

Re: So You Want To Learn To Program?
I am new to this so please don't judge. So right now I design comics and greetings cards but I am interested in programming an e-card system into my website. I wish to have an uploader where the customer can upload their own music and pictures. And also I would like to have an animated character by the system that assists users with grammar and spelling for example the little paper clip on microsoft word.
Text and color should be editable too. And in the future I would want to set up a membership service So all I am asking is for some advice and where to get started thanks |

Re: So You Want To Learn To Program?
Edit: Sorry. I just noticed you did post it in the Lounge as my post had suggested. Please ignore this post. mrhenrycai's thread is here.
