To be honest, I wanted to learn GUI of Java also not just the basics stuff with text! Java, How to Program teaches you the basics and shows you have to create Input Prompts, Pop-up boxes, etc in the first chapters! I loved how it did that! "Java: A Beginner's Guide" to me wasnt really "All That!". I had to re-read pages when I didnt get the explanation of things but it happened a lot even after reading Java 2 for Dummies, which I think it a good beginning book but not the best b/c it makes you import their classes instead of what's in the API. So far, I prefer "Java, How to Program". Its easy to understand, HEAVY, and fun!
