"I know what it is, how it is done and stuff of that nature." <-- edited version.

Does that sound better?

Run for the hills. For the love of god, learn something other than java. Like Python or C++.

What's the problem with java? I had this issue before some years, but now that i am trying to learn, it is not so bad ...maybe you have to give it a try

If you use windows, as most sane people do, then program in c# or VB. You can get the express edtions of visual studio free, and there are NO restrictions on use. If you are using Linux then reformat your hard disk and install windows.

I prefer linux than windows, i just use windows for gaming. I tried c# also, but i stopped to learn Java. About Vb, no comments....it is not a language for me, only a quick way to make a calculator , no hard feelings just my opinion

First of all it is free, u can find almost every application that u can use in windows for linux and again...free. You can set up your operating system to work in the way you want (not that i am a guru or an experienced user, but i like to start learning something more difficult than Windows) So learning java, or c/c++ is quite useful when u are using linux, u can right your own scripts etc.
