Hello everyone,
I've just been referred to this community and I'm hoping that a small bunch of you will be interested in joining a DEV Team to work on a very interesting project. I'm sure you would all love to know what this project is about before even considering the job offer. What we're aiming for is to develop a wide range of services that the PC gaming community would find very useful. Yes, I know I could just grab a copy of PostNuke and PHPBB and Voila! But I will stop you right there and say that I'm not interested in creating a replica of those two pieces of work. The main goal of this dev project is to see how flexible we can make it all. There is no limit to what we will be developing, and for expansion to be easy every piece of software we work on is, or will be, entirely modular. The reason why flexibility is so important is because it allows us to merge several communities into one without worrying about the limitations that our web engine would have for example. The merging party would be able to add any lacking features to the engine without a problem. The entire idea is just way too extensive and boring to cover in a post of this kind. The current team in place has been gathered because each member feels that the PC Gaming community is just too scattered. There is also no one place that can provide several services without the hassle of 5412 different control panels that are each just too weak to have any flexibility at all.. I've been told numerous times that I babble too much so if I just did it again, feel free to point and laugh :( Bottom line is, for a project of this size we need a lot of help. Our main priority being the core modular engine, a very quick and easy dev kit, then after that anyone with any free time could just help out with a module or two, making it all a community project. Here's what I need: Some team leaders, don't need to be an expert at code but need to be able to manage your team, assign tasks, deadlines, hold meetings, etc.. If you are an experienced coder then you'd be able to handle Quality Assurance as well! You guessed it.. Coders! PHP/DB(MySQL unless someone has a better idea) for the web part, C++ for the server/CP parts, and maybe a couple Bash/Shell scripters. We already have an SVN server in place (TortoiseSVN if I spelt that correctly), and we also use email, IRC and Ventrilo, phone on occasion when the discussion is just too steamy for the wWw! (Yes, I should be slapped for that) If you just think you can help in other areas of the project, by all means! There is no limit to the potential that this project has. And I would be very grateful if you would help just by giving us advice and such. Age doesn't matter. Not being an avid gamer doesn't matter. If this post at least made you raise an eyebrow that's a good enough reason for you to at least come have a chat :P Now before I get kicked in the behind for wasting so much post space :P I'll just mention the different ways to reach me. I will be checking this post as often as possible, and PMs if any. I can also be eMailed >> AndY ('AT') Evaded ('DOT') Us And on IRC >> Server: IRC.GameSurge.NET Channel: #AndY As for money, I will be honest and say that this project does have a ton of potential when it comes to marketing value, and we are not going to miss the opportunity to pursue that. But our priority is still to reach our goals and continue with/help fund the expansion of this project. For now, it's volunteer work, but I won't put any money in my pocket unless I share it with whoever else invested their time and effort into making this happen. So, I thank you all for reading this and hope to meet the lot of you soon! -- AndY |
