@peace_of_mind, that's true. However, you can add a line or two in your bootloader configuration to convince Windows that it is where it belongs.

Yeah, why does windows do that? I found that using map in grub.conf works for a non first partition, but how can I reinstall windows without overwriting my MBR and boot partition?

Heh, Started with Fedora Core 3(also know 4) and SUSE 9.3(I know 10 is out now)
I don't see too much difference in the command-line really, why use another version that is more complicated to install?
Both of the versions I mentioned are fairly easy to install. (Assuming you know how to install Windows... and I really hope you do... lol)
Someone enlighten me?

Drifter, there isn't mcuh difference in the terminals of the distros, buts its more the way it _works_. Different distros have different feels, package management, communities etc.

Some people view easy-to-use distros liek Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva etc. as windows like, so they prefer hardcore distros liek Gentoo, Slackware and freeBSD. These are more UNIX-like in their style.

If I have two HD's, one is Windows on a SATA drive, and I install a secdond HD, but it's IDE, and I want to install Linux on it? do I have to set the HD jumper settings a certain way? so that I can choose which drive I want to boot from ?

But i've had some problems

I had my harddrive with 2 partitions, one had windows on it the other had fedora core. during the install i formatted this partition and continued installing slack over the top. it said that it had finished the install, so i rebooted, but i got to the grub screen (from fedora) and it said that it couldn't find the harddrive (i guess becuase it couldn't find fedora). i thought that it had something to do with my mistake in the slack install. i booted into knoppix and used cfdisk to get rid of the linux partition and the linux swap thingy.

Now i just get a grub screen saying

However I know that my harddrive is working because i pulled some files off it when i was in Knoppix.

Anyone know how i can fix this, i.e. delete grub and have it just boot into windows so that i can attempt the install at a later date?

Sorry fixed it, booted into recovery console on xp install disk and used fixmbr and it worked...
