^2 = raised to the second power = exponent
12+3 / 36-4 15 / 31 use windows calc. im pretty sure that the "\" was meant to be a "/"

actually i just did that on my graphics calculator and it resulted to 12 3/4 i could be wrong but thats what i get

It ends up being 12 + 3 \ 16, which is (if the division sign is the right way round) 12.

Follow the order of operations:
12 + 3 \ (6 - 2) ^ 2 12 + 3 \ (4) ^ 2 12 + 3 \ 16 12.1875
