I just got a book called "sAms Teach Yourself C++ in 24 hours"
Is this a good book to follow. When i got the book it comes with a free compiler, should i use that or a internet one??

Also could someone please tell me what std:: means and what int means.

i believe those questions are answered in the book...
i've never used this book myself, but it can't hurt to read it, and besides, it only takes 24 hours. It sounds like your knowledge of C++ is limited, so i'm pretty sure you'll get something out of it.

SAM's Teach Yourself series have always been pretty good in my experience.
As Dizzutch mentions, those things are pretty basic and will be covered in the first few pages of any programming book worth its weight.

I would say its best to use whatever compiler that the book uses, unless you have to go out and by one. If it asks you to buy one, its up to you wether you buy one or not. If not you can use the free Dev-C++ (www.bloodshed.com) for Windows, or g++ for Linux. Both are very good in my experience.

I think, such books are for those, who need to brush upon the "topic" covered within the least possible time...
I had read this in some preface where the author of Teach Yourself <whatever> in <so many hours> mentioning that this book is for those whose boss has given them a new project and they have this "topic" in it..and they should know about it...

Therefore, I feel this book is good enough when u need to just revamp "topic" :-?
