Web based version?

I origionaly started a project with the idea of haveing it compleatly web based. That means in order to make it usefull from the desktop it needs to be a active desktop. Then I started programming C# and I decided to make a program version that would communicate with the main server. So what I am wonedring now is do I still need the web version? It would be desplayed the same way just th program version is more user friendly.

So is there any binifit to haveing a web based and a program based version?
Do the other major OSs support active desktops?
