Assembly is mostly used where speed and limited memory are a concern. Device drivers, embedded programs, automobile ECM's are a few. Assembly instructions pretty much have a one to one with machine code so if properly used the speed of programs are extremely fast. Assembly wouldn't be suitable for large application programs as the volume of code that would have to be written would be impractical.
Sorry for dragging up old threads but I for one would like to see an assembly tutorial since I am in the process of learning it.
