apple snobs?

Where I work ( a govt. school) they reckon it has to be done on an emac or its not "industry standard" Is this true? I seem to be able to do some pretty cool stuff on my toshiba laptop running xp with bog standard programs like movie maker, acid music studio and cheap usb cameras and a $50 dollar midi keyboard (lego cam for instance). What do you people think? Does it need to be done on an apple? sounds like snobbery to me!!

It doesn't _need_ to be done using apple macs.

I saw a behind the scenes thing about making and animated movie, they used macs.

Surely it comes down to the individual and their ability to ge the most out of the applications they use whatever platform

I've found out two things being in the work force the last couple of years.

1.) There is no such thing as a true industry standard.

People will have a habit of using whatever they want however they want to get the job done, and all that tends to matter is the results.

2.) Some people in the face of all evidence to the contrary, will continue to believe they are right.

If you have the time/effort I might show a small demonstration of what's possible, but I wouldn't count on anyone changing their minds, and pressing too hard will only increase frustration.

No.

"What do you people think? Does it need to be done on an apple? "

No. It sounds like someone's personal preference.

i've went to go school for multmedia designs. macs and some of the programs to do stuff like movie editing are great. I don't think they are industry standard persay but believe a large percentage of the industry uses them. However the same programs cna be bought for windows. but they are pricey in the hundreds and thousands of dollars. There are also some open source movie editors out there that are free. haven't used them much myself so can't say much on that. but gimp is great as a photoshop replacement. And for special effects and 3d you could use blender. whatever you use does not matter as long as it gets you to the end goal you envision. However im a linux user so i would not recommend using windows for anything else then for torture. lol. Got that scene just right and then blue screen of death and you forgot to save!

It's a historical phenomenon. The IBM PC lagged in being able to produce high-quality graphics. Those who RELIED on high-quality graphics (movie makers, graphics designers, people like that) chose the Apple, quite rightly. I would say the difference is a thing of the past and more controlled by a particular implementation, these days. You'll find (surely you've noticed, here) that people take very serious stances and put forth very serious and "factual" information, without actually knowing what they're talking about. They just "heard someone else say."
