I thought I had ADD when I couldnt catch on to windows programming, but later I realized I couldnt catch on because I thought it was harder than it actually was and I stoped myself from understanding. Anyway never give up cause something looks hard at first. My therory is "If they can do it, so can I".

i went from agonizing over getting javascript to print text in different colors to writing a c program that generated 10,000 random integers, put them into an array, and then sorted them into a linked list and printed them out in sorted order in about 3 months. it's HARD AS FUCKING SHIT for a little while (not long at all, a month or so) and then it clicks and starts to get really fun. it's not for everyone, and if you find that you hate it after a semester of a basic intro to cs course, try switching to information systems where the focus is on computing systems in the business environment. good luck man, i'm 25 now, and just starting college again also.

I agree with blood, Its just now starting to click for me. Now im starting to feel that my programs are really amazing products of my mind instead of just copies of other programs Ive seen.

My favourite tutorial for non-programmers would be this one.

My opinion is that, even if you don't quickly understand something while learning to program, first clearly knowing what certain features do might be the key in order to take the logical steps to find out what's actually happening under the hood. It might take great effort and concentration in doing so. Start out with something that you can fully comprehend and build upon it.

I'll comment on the original post... You are going to college to learn these things, don't sweat it if you don't catch on as quick as you like. The assignments and lectures will build your foundation... Just be motivated and dedicated to the end result.
