Where did C# come from? Also what would java applets be considered? JavaScript or Java, they are programmed more like an imperiative language, but act like a script language.

C# came from Microsoft. It is a managed programming language akin to C++ and Java, that requires the .Net framework for applications created with it to run. Personally I think that until Microsoft starts bundling the .Net framework with the OS (so until Vista) adoption amongst those creating desktop applications will be slow.
Java applets are Java. If you mean they act like a script language because they run inside a web browser, then you're muchly mistaken. Sun distributes a plugin that lets you run a Java program embedded in a webpage. |

Actually, anyone that has "updated" their Windows system in the last couple years probably has the .Net framework installed. I work on a lot of systems that belong to non-technical people, and I haven't seen one without it in ages.
