Mosix is a modification of the Linux kernel to allow processes to be transferred among other Mosix-enabled machines. If you wanted to use mosix on those servers, they would have to be booted into a Linux environment, which is easy to do with a ClusterKnoppix CD. OpenMosix is a popular incarnation of Mosix, and the OpenMosix websites gives detailed info.

However, I do not see a huge advantage to running F@H with OpenMosix. If you just have several machines with the same username, all the work units will count towards you. Each machine would do its own work unit, but in the end it's the same amount of processing power. You can have one work unit finished in X hours or 10 work units finished in 10X hours. It works out to be the same.

I can have all the machines work on different work units but the problem is that not all machines have an internet connection. So, I'll have to submit the results manually.

Actually I was joking. It resumes fine. First WU should be finished tomorrow. I'm setting it up on my laptop at home now. This one should go much quicker as I can let it run 24 hours a day.

Clearly that's what all university nerds playing around with parrallel processing actually end up doing.

InfoGeek: you could also take Dameon's approach, by specifying pre-downloaded workfiles as a parameter in the command line client, or simply making the server a network gateway. And if they're not networked then mosix wouldn't work either.

I don't want to share the internet connection. It's a slow one.
BTW, All the machines are networked.

Well the cluster should put less stress on the internet connection as the WUs being downloaded/uploaded separately, but if you've got a slow hub it could easily get saturated. Anyway, you could put a bandwidth/speed cap on the bridge at the server.
