I've used it since Peter came out with it and would have agreed with you until the last couple years. I just switched in the last few months to PC-Cillin, and I have to say, in my opinion, it's better.

The key to protection in my opinion is constant updates frequent full scans and a good firewall anything would have trouble unless you let it in accident(cookies are pretty much always going to sneak in.) Another thing scan your downloads before you open them that is usually a pretty good way. In other words any reliable software(with witch you follow those basic guidelines is pretty safe.

Thank you for the educational remarks. I no doubt have missed something along those lines in the last 30 years. I hope the clients whose machines I clean don't find out. My comments regarding Norton's are not so much its inability to protect (although PC-Cillin found something Norton's missed) as the fact that the code has gotten very fat, sloppy, and resource hungry.

I got rid of Norton because there is a known conflict with M$ VC++ 6.0 compiler which was apparently nevery addressed by either Norton or M$ -- each one probably pointed a finger at the other.

If it finds that many viruses on your computer you are need to have it run all the time in the background so that it can catch and block viruses before they have a chance to infect your computer.
