just to clear everything up. You guys will probably know this but it's not mentioned directly, and for rookies reading these posts. C++ does not have built in graphics/GUI libraries. Depending on the OS you're writing for there are different libraries available, for Linux, qt, gtk, gtk2, motif etc. for windows there's those way to complicated windows API. The best way to learn about these different libraries is through websites, search google for information, and you'll find many examples and tutorials on how to use them.
Good luck Dizz ps. I hate GUI's, they piss me off, give me a terminal any time.. ![]() |

Hell sockets are not even built in libraries, although they are present on almost all graphic operating systems, just like graphic libraries, which really should be present on any graphic OS
.edit: I want to learn MFC sometime, don't have the time for it at present though.

I think a programming language should have barely any 'built in libraries' this way you have choices, AKA, winsock sucks balls, qt/motif is ugly.

Don't bother learning win API, MFC, of COM because they're hard, complicated, outdated, and UGLY. Anyways, go straight to C# and the .NET framework as it is the best solution among the rest. And with mono, you might be able to run your .NET programs on Linux too in the near future, who knows.
here's a great book: "C# and the .NET Platform" second edition by Andrew Troelsen |

*nix X11 is darn hard, that's why they created GTK etc.
