WHY!!! My computer crashed yesterday and in the process decided to delete a system file or something!! So it would not boot, so i had to restore back to my factory settings! Loosing ALL my music, all my documents several important, internet favourites, to which some i can't remember the url!! And worse of all! All the progams i have ever wrote, ok 90% of them are useless crap, but how would you feel!!
![]() Stupid computers! Oh well that's my rant done ![]() ps; I hope it never happens to anyone else p.p.s; I think i better make back-up disks every week or so!! Lol.

Here's what to do next time:
Since your HDD was functional, all of your files were likely in working order - your problem was a corrupt/missing file that was required for loading your OS (sounds like Windows BTW). So, to get your files, go to another computer (yours or a friends) and take the case off and hook up your hard drive as a 'slave' to the other computer. Boot up that other computer and copy all of your files to their hard drive (or sit there and make a bunch of CDs/DVDs). If you think your problem was virus related, be mindful when doing this so you don't take down another machine! THEN you can go reformat your HDD and reinstall your OS. Then simply copy your files back onto your hard drive. Your files are only gone if the HDD is trashed - and even then, they might be retrievable by a skilled person. But, of course, you should backup regularly too. ![]() EDIT: uman posted his comment when I was writing this, so there is a bit of redundancy :p

Lol, i would have 'booted' the hdd in to another computer, But, a) it's a laptop, too much hassle, b) It wouldn't boot even if i got it too another slave computer, as the system files were bust, so surely it would not start even in another computer?
not sure if that statement is correct!! lol, luckly pfo don't delete posts or anything like that, so a few of my more recent and 'decent' programs so it ain't so bad! I think! hehe Back-up's all the way!!! hehe

nah they ment put it into another computer as a "slave drive" and make the other computer boot as normal and use your hdd just as "storage" so you can copy the files from your nackard HDD to the friends one then reload windows and copy back.
