I'm not a "people person" either... but sometimes I just have to unplug.

I can agree to that. My Boss swears by them and i have to make several per project. Pisses me off. Pseudo code is my fav thing to think with.

Obviously a flowchart can be a time-waster at the detail coding level and pseudo-code is no good at a high modular level that might need a few hundred lines of code to express. The important thing is that, at whatever level, the expression solidifies your perception of what is going on (or will be going on) at that particular level. Bosses should trust their employee's instincts or get an employee whose judgement they can rely on. If an employee is new or in training, then that employee needs to rely on the boss for methodology. Understand that sometimes you have to do things in a specific way to satisfy the requirements, whether that's the FDA or an investor with a lot of dollars who can't understand your particular method and won't spring the cash if he doesn't.

i did a year a university with flow charts as an "experiment" with 1 class, so the second year everyone from my group was messed up due to them wanting pseudo code, yet no-one had done it.

Its all in my mind, I see the logic and keep the end result in mind... the middle pieces just fall in place. There are times that I jot a few concepts down on paper into a "todo list"... but that is only for more complex programs. The last project required flowcharts for upper management, I did them after the project was complete.

Are you saying this is a commercially successful company with a successful product?

Depends on if you think the US Department of Defense is a commercial entity. If so, then yes, they were only used to document how the software system worked and used to outline the various features so a standard operating procedure could be written.

Ahhhhhhh. I've delivered two machines to the DoD. They were successes, but not because of the DoD's ability to manage development and production. They (or the taxpayer) were lucky they had someone to deliver a decent product if it was built before it was designed.
