Tcl/Tk Forum?
If you've read many of my posts you'll know this one's been brewing for a while! What about a Tcl/Tk forum under Scripting? Ever since I started using Tcl/Tk a few years back I've hardly touched anything else interpreted (except a bit of Perl for CGI). It's a great beginner's language, you can develop cross-platform GUI applications incredibly fast in it, and embed it in and extend it with C.
The more I use it the more I'm convinced it actually /is/ some kind of deity, rather than just having been created by one (like Perl). Would there be much interest in such a forum here? What d'you think? |

Well, that was a large round of indifference!
Never mind. |

I don't do Tcl/Tk, but I agree that it should have a forum.

It's great. Check out:
http://www.tcl.tk/ or http://www.tcl.tk/advocacy/ if you want the hard sell! It's quick and easy to learn and program in, and very powerful. There's even a nice object-oriented extension (incr Tcl - the name's supposed to be in square brackets but I wasn't sure how to include them without annoying the forum system). You can extend the language with C, too, and easily embed the interpreter in C applications. If it wasn't for my web host only allowing Perl for CGI programming, I don't think I'd use Perl much at all, and I /very/ rarely write a shell script. |

Sorry, I missed this... I agree, I'd like to see a Tcl/Tk forum as well.

my question is will it be used enough, as we already have enough forums that dont get huge amounts of posts and make the site look more empty then it really is. If you all think it will get used i will give it a 2 or 3 month trial run and see what happens with it

It'd probably give me a chance to answer more questions more helpfully. I can understand your concern, Big K; with any luck there are enough people to make it worth keeping.
Thanks! |
