One thing the piano is not is easy. But it's damn fun. Especially jazz, as I think someone else pointed out (can't be bothered to scroll up). I'm taking my Grade 4 exam on Thursday, and I'm really looking forward to it. I just love playing the beast.

Since I was eight or something, but I only started doing grades two years ago. It was a little stop-start... I started, played for about six months, stopped for a couple years, played for another year or so...

i was about to take grade 3 about a year ago after a years playing, the jump from 2 to 3 is HUGE and from 3 to 4 looks the bloody same!!!

however i would also like to add that i don't find it that hard to learn, i've been progressing with much practise and yes if your a touch typist that might help ALOT you have to remember what notes will be being played i'm thinking about 3 beats ahead most of the time although i always aim to get to the point where i don't need music (i had all the pieces i needed by heart for the grade 2 exam

I never took grades 1 or 2 - I just decided to do grade 3. And I did pretty well at it too.

I play the piano and did grades 1-8 at the royal scottish academy or music and drama. I started at age 9 and I am now 25 and still play regulary. If I can ever pull myself away from my computer that is!

I didn't read the other replies... sorry guys. Bottom line is... you can do whatever you put your mind to. Regardless, of the environment or any other factor... if you want it and are dedicated, its yours. Everyone, starts from somewhere.
