I was thinking of buying a cheap synthetic one to start out with. What's wrong with that?

well keyboard have major disadvantages

1- smaller keys (almost always)
2- less notes (in general)
3- even if its pressure sensitive you'll not strengthen your fingers enough
4- it in general is too high to play well i find (just an opinion that sorry)

so get yourself a cheap second hand one get it tuned and see if you like it, btw a cheap second hand one isn't going to sound great it'll just be useful

if you've got more thatn £100 (200$) to spend think about a second hand electic piano they don't fall out of tune and they are much better as most are pressure sensitive (don't get it if it doesn't feel like a real piano!!!) good luck with it

Yep, keyboards are terrible. I've been in piano for 9 years and still hate those *** ****** things. lol.

Piano will be a very difficult instrument to pick up and get good at, at your age. Because you gather the concepts you need to excel at piano during your young developmental ages, rather after your brain has stopped developing.

It's your call, but I wouldn't spend $20 000 on a good piano, you might just find after sticking to a synthesizer that you don't like piano anyways (I don't like it either. ).

I started learning cello at the age of 20. I've been taking lessons for 7 months and I can already play some Bach and Handel. I have also played guitar for 8 years and Celtic penny whistle for less than 1 (I got it to learn the Lord of the Rings "Concerning Hobbits" theme ). The only thing I suggest is get an instrument with which you can play your favorite music. If you aren't moved by what you are playing, you will not be good. good luck!

dang. I wish I had learned all this stuff earlier. I guess it's a lot harder to teach an "old dog" new tricks. Not that 15 is old, but it is for some things. Well whatever, I'm going to try my best.

uman if you can get access to a piano and play it for about an hour a day each day for a month you'll improve much faster than most its a lot of being able to think of one hand doing one thing will the other is doing another and later on while your feet and doing something too (i wonder why piano players make good lovers xD)

Heh... I'm quite good at doing one thing with one hand while doing another thing withg the other hand, e.g. typing, maybe piano will come easily. Then again probbaly not, but I can work towards it!

typing is completely different though. Unless you type by hitting up to 10 keys at once in rapid succession.

You wouldn't believe how much must be put into piano though. I'm not trying to scare you, just warn you that you might not enjoy your process. Piano is definitely not an easy instrument to be good at, but it is an easy one to have fun with.
