Musical instrument

I'm somewhat interested in learning how to play a musical instrument, like the violin or something. Only one problem: I'm 15 years old, and it seems that anyone who is actually good started learning at a far younger age. Is there still hope for me?

Around your age I've noticed people usually only pick up on something like the guitar quickly enough. But if you have the time, dedication, and desire, you can learn any instrument you want. You just have to go for it. Good luck.

everyone says that about the guitar do you know why that is? its because there are SO many pieces from classic stuff to modern and its that range that keeps people interested, if you want a real challenge try jazz piano its MEGA hard but the tunes are just so god damn catchy (i'm gonna move into that soon)

also i started piano at 15 and i got to grade 2 in about 6 months from no previous expirience, music is to do with natural talent alot more than the age you start at although younger you will be more devoted and such but try it and say what its like give it a month or so before trying another and get SINGLE lessons they cost more but in the end they'll save you money don't go for grades that takes the fun out of it just play what you want to play and good luck please tell me what you choose

if you want me to suggest some things tell me what music you like to listen to, who sings it / plays it what type (surf rock, rock, punk, classic, pop) and how often you listen to it. cheers.

I like a lot of music but I don't listen to it that often. My favorite is rock, pretty much. I also really like classical music, but I hardly ever listen to it nor do I know anything about it.

Edit: Whee, 600th post!

Anyway, I'd be willing to work at it and give it a lot of dedication, to an extent. School, life, and programming are going to come before music, that's for sure. Would it be worth the effort?

Given your list of priorities, not the violin, *that* I can tell you right now. You'll only be scaring neighbour's cat

well i'll go on the most fun for me to play then, something up lifting is quite nice so modern jazz maybe jazz piano or jazz guitar would be a good choice for you to try out first, with only that much time your going to have trouble it should be about 3rd on your list so unless you want to play during lunch at school from time to time then your going to have to play something a little easier.
