GUI question.

Just wondering but is there a difference in performance if you do your gui in visual basic or visual c++. I heard that its fastest to just use winapi calls.

It is. That's all VB ultimately does - it transparently calls the APIs used to draw controls, but it adds quite a bit of overhead, slowing things down. Of course, it's ten times faster to draw a button in VB than it is to write a load of code defining, declaring and drawing the button in C++.

If you do decide to switch to C++, all your effort will be lost if you use the Microsoft Foundation Classes, or MFC. It's basically VB, but more confusing. Use straight API calls.

There is a middle ground - VB .NET or C#. They're faster than VB, almost as easy to code, and a lot more powerful. Check 'em out: http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/
