8th grade is the American way of saying what, if I'm not mistaken, you would call "2nd form".
our school system goes by grades:
1st grade
2nd grade
3rd grade
4th grade
5th grade
6th grade
7th grade
8th grade
9th grade (aka "Freshman year")
10th grade (aka "Sophomore year")
11th grade (aka "Junior year")
12th grade (aka "Senior year")
