You can often get away with using the context sensitive popups for simple things like syntax. I rarely have to look at msdn so the free online version suits me just fine. If I have a problem I usually google search first before trying msdn because it's easier to work out what's going on from a good tutorial with example code rather than microsoft's way of wording things.
