Sorry, but that's completely wrong. There are plenty of good, fast and arguably Microsoft-superior compilers for classic and .NET VB, ranging from SharpDevelop, through Gambas to Mono and KDevelop is one of a number of possible IDEs. And that's not going into the various oddball options you can find out there for windows.

You could try RealBasic, though that doesn't work for VB, it uses reg. Basic.(I think)
But it's only a demo.

there was one that i had a link to but i really forgot it...it was an OPEN SOURCE VB compiler that was also free....ah well....i got vb.net 2003 anywayz so im good to go

If you just want to learn vb I think there's an education edition or something that's either free or cheap. Not sure what it's called or how much it costs, but look around MS's site and you may find something.

I think compiling to .exe is disabled in this version though.

Anyone know what I'm mumbling about?

If you go into tools\Macros on any microsoft office program it should have something like visual basic editor and in office 2003 it has Microsoft Script Editor also.

Yes, they do. In fact the VS 6 compiler has been made free (in the sense of not having to pay), which covers C2, the mod of the original C1.exe used to compile C++/C that VB6 uses, so it wouldn't be impossible to develop apps using the Working Modal edition and compile manually or using a utility app.

And it seems SharpDevelop uses the MS .Net compilers as well...
