hi
i want to do a project where in a panel comes up on the desktop showing the hard disk usage,memory used,net ,ethernet access,swap etc... today only i saw the KSIM (though i am using Gnu/Linux since a long time..anyway) today.. and it was the same what i wanted... i am a newbie in C on Gnu/Linux .. so can somebody help me out with step by step guides.. and how to go about.. i want to do a nice one better than Ksim with better GUI and features.. and suggest a good compiler on Gnu/Linux... thanks

If you're looking for a development environment on GNU systems, I would suggest KDevelop, that is, if you have the resources. If note, just get yourself a good editor(i.e Nedit, Emacs, Vim) and gcc, which is most-likely already their. Unless you're using LFS, what GNU/Linux distrobution are you running? That might help us figure out how you want to install it, depending on package managment of that specific distrobution.

i am on FEDORA CORE 1.
and thinking of developing something like Ksim or better ..with features and GUI... i am a newbie.. help me thanks

another thing to keep in mind, if you want a popup, you will probably want to use either qt or gtk, granted since you run fedora, gtk would be preffered by your OS, i would recommend trying qt as it is a little simpler and (in my opinon) looks better. If you need a quick and easy reference forc/c++ i would recommend cprogramming.com they have solid well written tuts with short quizes to match each and sample progs/assignments.
