Is it a scripting language, a web compiler or what? I know it has something to do with online application development. Anyone know?

Cold fusion was a scripting language that was developed for web applications. It never really caught on since there is already a myriad of scripting languages out there. PHP, Perl, asp asp.net, etc.

what about the newer version, coldfusion mx 7.0 or whatever. How does it compare with PHP and ASP?

The reason I'm asking is because my friend uses it, and says it's unbelievable for database programming (SQL for example)

Thanks, Massive

I used it at uni (was forced to) it was good for interacting with an oracle database but it was a pain to do anything more complex the sql queries and the syntax i didnt like.

As for speed I never noticed much of a slow down, but then again i could of done a project in PHP in half the time and even more secure. '.cfm' are the extentions i think. i dont have any old code to dig up as its all on my ftp server at uni which has probably been wiped by now :/

I believe every single regular in this forum is partial towards PHP. And as a bonus, hosts that support PHP are a lot cheaper.
