well you can do pretty much anything with VB, with vba you have to stick with apps that deal with the document that you are working on, have it be excel, word, access and what ever else uses vba. so that makes VB more powerful them VBA cause you can create complete stand alone apps with VB
and there are some commands and stuff from vb that dont work in vba i cant think of them off the top of my head if i remember what they are i will let you know
