That was the brilliant precursor/successor to worms unlimited. Far better than doom, we didn't need graphics to make a good game...

If you can get 150fps on Half-Life 2, I'm breaking into your house and stealing your box.

Good luck with that, Bertie. For those of you who haven't succumbed to the temptation of World of Warcraft, Guild Wars is out.

Purty much. I take it you're learning a real language now?

I too started ages and ages ago begining with Apple Basic and on to GW-Basic and then QBasic. Also took Pascal in school. All of the classes at school got kind of boring though b/c of lack pace for anyone who really wants to learn to program. I found myself picking up books and teching myself how to code. And I actually got pretty good at it and wrote some cool games. But if I were to sit in front of a QBasic now I wouldn't be able to do much b/c it was so long ago.

BASIC - Gah!

I started on ye olde Pascal several years ago. It's possibly the only programming language in history where indices would start from 1 instead of 0. BTW, you Delphi programmers - don't kid yourselves. You're just programming in a fancier version of Pascal.

I then moved onto Visual Basic 6. It was definitely better than Pascal, but it could have been so much better. The next version, VB.NET (which is radically different) is soooooo much better. I bet that those of you who are making fun of VB haven't tried the .NET variety yet. I could give you loads of reasons why you should.

Anyway, apart from Pascal and VB6/VB.NET, I have experience of Java, ANSI/ISO C++ (the better, unmanaged version of the language), C#, MySQL, Bash, JavaScript and a bit of PHP. I have also worked with XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets, as well as ultra basic aspects of XML.

I'm intending to do more with all of those, plus learn Perl, Python, 8086 Assembly and re-learn Tcl/Tk.

One of my pieces of coursework at university next year will be making a compiler so I'll be working with Flex and Bison, tools which I've never used before but intend to over the summer.

There should be a special mention for good ol' 6502 Assembly. I used this for one piece of coursework last year and don't intend to touch it ever again. I still think we should have been taught the 8086 variety as it's more relevant to modern system architectures and is just plain better from what I read.
