No .exe is being created with my stuff

I've got NotePad++ set up real nice and it's working good with Java and C++ for the most part, but what I don't understand is that when I run my .cpp file the code runs fine and I get the output in the window but there is no .exe file being created.

I'm using minGW as my compiler.

Unless this file is being stored in some other folder besides my projects folder. And sometimes I see a prog file being created which is an application file, and I think that is a sort of .exe file?

Confused I am. I would like to figure out where my .exe files are going.
