You could get a fine pc for $500, or a lot less. It realy depends on what you're going to use it for.

Gaming: At least 512mb of ram, p4 processor (or amd equivelant), and you'll probably have to buy a good video card.

Linux: Just make sure everythings compatable. Sound card, ethernet card, and video card are good things to check.

But, unless you want to do some hardcore gaming, $500 should be fine.

yeah i wouldnt worry about spending much more then 500. but if you plan on some hardcore caming then maybe you could end up spending a few extra hundred on a video card and make sure the cpu is a good speed and anywhere between 512 and 1024 mb of ram should be good for everything

I was more hoping for Linux so I could proggie. I don't really care that much about gaming. Execpt for Stronghold Two and ElderScrolls IV: Oblivion.

I mean on the comp I have right now. I mutli-thread, keep 6 or 7 tabs on Firefox open and constanlty run proggies that I make all at the same time.
I want a comp that can do this without slowing down. Also: What brand of comp should I buy?

I was also browsing dell's website and came across this interesting thing:
FreeDOSTM included in the box, ready to install????

What is FreeDOS? is it like MSDOS or could I still get Linux?

What I really want is Linux on my PC.

You can still get linux, and what you want to get is Dell. They have the cheapest computers for the money and the most reliable computer builds...

Judging by the screenshots of ES4, you'll want a good gaming machine

Linux could also benefit from a good video card because the desktops are 3D accelerated

$100 dollars would get you an NVIDIA Geforce FX 5700. I wouldn't go much below that for newer games on the NVIDIA side of things.

I don't know much about ATI. I have heard that it's Linux drivers aren't the best, but all I have is sheer rumor. It'd be foolish to take my word for it without doing some research.
