codetaino i tried that but it didnt work, plus if the login page already had the post data present then setting the session's value wouldnt have any effect as the login page wud simply replace it with the correct one and automatically log me in

@codetaino no the problem was when i ran the logout script it didnt log out i found that althought the logout script did destroy the session the login script was simply re-creating it because for some reason the post values still contained the correct values but since i split the code into two files there hasn't been any problems
