I have to admit that, ZenMasterJG, you do sound as though as you hate the Dummies series completely.
On the other hand, jstevenhall, the starter book you got is a great one!
Why? It was my starter book!
Seriously, Barry Burd has done a great job in writing the book. Unique chapter titles and content, a touch of humour (that, for once in a long time, that really made me laugh) yet it really brings the message across. If I'd recommend a book for people starting on Java, it's definitely this one!!
