We could probably go on for ever with this... but for reports I perfer to user Perl or scripts (bash, zsh, c, sed / awk). Reports in C++ can get complicated, VB is pretty straight forward but I hate the time it takes for sequential processing.

yeah we could go forever on this lol. cause i dont like creating reports using perl or scripts but i know its pretty easy to do i just would perfer using cobol or rpg. more rpg then anything cause to write a pretty simple report in cobol it will take you atleast 500 lines of code. but only maybe 30 of them are actually getting the info and and printing the rest is setting stuff up. here is the 99 bottles of beer thing coded in cobol
http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net//c.html#Cobol
and here it is for rpg
http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net//r.html#RPG/400
as you can tell rpg is the quick of the 2 if you know what your doing

That link is quite interesting... Ill have to look it over more when I get home.
It all boils down to the programmer's discretion in using the best tool for any given job. No one language is the "best" for everything... even if I am pro-C++

I know someone who learned ADA at one of the military academies about 8 years ago. If he would have continued with programming in the military it might have come in handy. As it is, he hasn't seen any of it since then.

Now that I think about it, I don't know if he could have continued with programming. I can't imagine any of our armed forces need people that do real programming. From what I've seen, the heavy duty stuff is all outsourced to defense contractors. I guess they specify ADA so that they might have someone who can deal with it if need be.

Well, the infantry doesn't thats for sure. However, they have people set aside to do this all over the world... IT Specialists, etc. I write code for the US military and you're right, because I work for a DoD contractor... we don't use ADA, although we can use any language we choose, for the most part that would be C++.
