Ok, read this for 30 seconds; it's all it takes!

I've been studying c++ for several months now, and I'm highly interested in game development. Obviously I need more experience and such on programming games before I can really move up into the big stuff, so I'm wondering where I should start?

Please don't suggest books, because I already have too many. Where would a wanna be game programmer start? What steps should I take? How should I go about learning the art of game development?
